What did we find in Bulgaria? Well, in Sofia, we found a city with a 6,000 year-old history of occupation by various civilizations including Romans, Turks, and Russians. Each helped to shape Sofia into what it is today—a city where Orthodox, Christian, Muslim and Jewish religions can peacefully be within a three block radius of each other. There's a historic church, temple, mosque or cathedral on just about every other block. Sofia is where 20th century subway lines run directly beside 6th century Roman roads and a 4th century church sits surrounded by a modern hotel, hi-end retailers, and a presidential building.
